The last news about Wonderland

Wonderland, the abandoned, fairytale theme park that never was, has finally been torn down, the Beijing News has reported. Destruction began in late April, the builders claim – too late for us to send a photographer – and the whole demolition job will be completed by May 10. It’s reported that the park will be replaced by – brace yourself – a large-scale shopping mall, the Great Wall International Famous Mall, thus neatly replacing one large, empty, unwanted commercial venue with another.

How to get to Wonderland from Beijing? There are two options to get there by public transportation. Option 1 is a better way to save time in my opinion.

Option 1: Take Subway Line 2 to Jishuitan Station, get out from Exit A, walk for about 270m to get to Deshengmen West Bus Station, change for Bus 883(15 stops) to get to Chenzhuang Station, and walk for about 510m to get there.

Option 2: Take Subway Line 2 to Jishuitan Station, change for Subway Line 13 to get to Xierqi Station. Take Subway Line Changping to Nanshao Station, get out from Exit B2, change for Bus 870 & Bus 11 to Chenzhuang, and walk for about 400m to get there.

Some introudction about this park: Aiming to create the biggest amusement park in Asia, Beijing Wonderland Amusement Park was built between 1996 and 1998, a short period following the funds were withdrawn after the farmers raised the stakes as land prices had been rising ahead of the Olympics.

Beijing Wonderland 100-acre Amusement Park is located at Chenzhuang Village, Nankou Town, Changping County,  around 25miles drive along Badaling experessway from Beijing. The Disneyland-like amusement park just never came to be. The site has been abandoned since 1998. The sprawling amusement park has been almost completely deserted, it’s now just farmland.
