Conclusion

If you look carefully at the recent published Great Wall photographic works, you will quickly find that most of the pictures were taken from both Jiankou and Jinshanling. Jiankou and Jinshanling have been attracting numbers of photographers and adventurous and experienced hikers. Hiking on Jinshanling and Jiankou with plenty of photography stops brings you the classic Great Wall hiking experience as well as the best scenery/landscape views. You may already have seen many beautiful pictures of Jinshanling and Jiankou in guidebooks, videos, magazines.

Jiankou has a wild beauty and ruggedness that cannot be described unless you visit it. Jiankou is much more wild and isolated compared with Jinshanling. Most parts of Jiankou is deteriorated and overgrown, you have to bushwhack your way along the path in summer and fall.

Both Jinshanling and Jiankou will bring you something less touristy and more challenging while Mutianyu usually has more visitors especially on weekends. Jiankou is a good complement to Jinshanling-Simatai. If you like trekking through the wilderness, make a day trip to Jiankou. Of course, everyone likes different scenery.
